Job Opportunity: Special Needs Mentor - Requires a Car
Hi everyone,
I am graduating this year and am writing in search for someone to take my position as a mentor for a friend of mine with special needs, Josh Weiner. Josh is 28 years old, lives in Evanston in Sherman Plaza on Davis Street, and unfortunately has special needs. For someone with special needs, Josh is very high-functioning and the nicest guy you may meet in your life. He is able to walk and shop for himself, hold and maintain a conversation very well, joke around (he loves jokes and likes to laugh), has learned right from wrong, and is very personable. He works part-time at a hospital as a transporter for people on a stretcher or in wheel chairs. In the days he is not working, he volunteers at a hospital as well. He has gone to school his whole life learning how to live independently and contribute to society - as such he still needs the help from others to complete everyday tasks.
The position as a mentor requires a time commitment of 2 hours once a week to 1) take him grocery shopping, 2) help him out with basic tasks around his house such as paying bills, typing e-mails, or other small household duties, and 3) then taking him out to dinner after grocery shopping. In doing so, Josh is willing to compensate you $25 each week for your time (usually around 2 hours). As well, a car will be needed to take him grocery shopping. As Josh is Jewish and keeps kosher, he likes to be taken to the Jewel on Howard street as they offer a huge kosher selection.
For the past two and a half years, I have been helping him out with these tasks each week. However, I am graduating and need somebody to fill my spot. Personally, I would highly recommend being Josh's mentor as it is something I look forward to each week. It really helps me learn and consider what is truly important in life and in the process I am able to help someone out and have made a really good friend. Furthermore, Josh is always so appreciative of the time I spend with him as he rarely gets the chance to hang out with people who do not have special needs.
Please contact me at 847.431.1559 or at jeremytoddbauer@gmail.com if you are interested or have any questions. Again, I would highly recommend it and Josh needs your help. Thank you for your consideration.
Best,
Jeremy Bauer
