Through a unique partnership with the Northwestern University Study Abroad Office, Fiedler Hillel administers study abroad in Israel for Northwestern University. Students who wish to apply apply for study abroad in Israel must do so through Hillel. The best way to begin the process is to set up an appointment with Cydney Topaz.

Where can I study in Israel?
Currently Hillel administers programs at two universities in Israel:

* Rothberg International School at Hebrew University, Jerusalem
* Ben Gurion University, Beersheva

What is my status at Northwestern University when I study abroad in Israel?
When you study abroad in Israel, your status as an NU student is “inactive.  When you return to campus you retroactively register to the University, and your credits, if properly approved in advance from an accredited program, will appear on your transcript.

Will my financial aid be available when I study abro
ad?
Due to the fact that Israel study abroad does not fall into the “Affiliated” category,
no financial aid from Northwestern University will apply to Hebrew University or Ben Gurion University.  There are many other options through which to receive scholarship money which include Masa Israel, your local Jewish Federation, scholarships through the Israeli universities and other sources.

What is the safety situation in Israel?
The safety of students is of utmost concern. The Universities provide 24 hour campus-wide security. All official off-campus activities, e.g. field trips and study tours, are coordinated with the proper authorities. This allows students the full benefit of an unhampered Israel experience. Students are advised to use common sense in dealing with the realities of life in this region.

Metropolitan Chicago's Jewish Federation, the Jewish United Fund, has money available for Israel experiences.
