From One Generation to the Next

I recently read the Book of Tobit and the Story of Ahikar. The Book of Tobit is part of the Hebrew Bible, whereas the Story of Ahikar can be traced to Assyrian roots, though it undoubtedly has influenced Jewish, Christian and Muslim thought. In any case, upon reading them, striking similarities arose. In both stories, a portion is dedicated to a father’s bestowing all his worldly wisdom to his son before some particular event.
